IOM,women migrant workers "Colombia"

Migration has been a problem since la ot of time ago, it's defined as the displacement of population, and it is produced from a place of origin to another destination, and also involves an affectation on the level of a person`s life and family environment and a perception that to settle elsewhere will increase their economical prospects.
the most remarkable migration from the 19th century until the present is the massive displacement of population from rural to urban areas.

There are some Bodies of migration, as the UN, IOM- OIM, and the United Nation, and the embassies and consulates.

The IOM is a technical intergovernmental organism, that has been operating in Colombia for 52 years, which captates resources all over the world and simoultaneously movilizes technical resources, which are displayed in the support, development and execution of social projects.

One of the most important things why the IOM stands out is because it has actively participated in the humanitary refom, along with the permanent inter-agential comitee IASC, and it is an important part of United Nations' system for development.

Since 2000, the IOM has provided assistance through its programmes, to more than 2 million people, including internally displaced persons, host communities, Colombians seeking protection across international borders, victims of natural disasters, ex-combatant minors, adults demobilized from ilegal armed groups, victims of trafficking, labour migrants, as well as Colombian authorities who have participated in IOM's trainings.

The IOM recognizes the social inequalities between men and women, this is why one of their axes is focused in eliminating these differences, specifically violence towards women. They have created the Integral Programme Against Gender Violence, which contributes to prevention, attention and eradication of gender-based violence, icluding sexual, familiar and workplace violence. Through this programme, along with programmes such as Assistance For Displaced Persons And Vulnerable Population and the Social Marketing Strategy, they aim to promote democratic initiatives that improve the acces and joy of the benefits of development women have, through the promotion of gender equality and women's autonomy, increasing the marketing potential of displaced people, specially women.

An example of this is the support the IOM has been giving to the women of Luz y Vida association, who are making a living packing sacks of coffe, processed by Procafecol, owners of Juan Valdez Café.
